Recently, I attended a marketing master class, and the coach said something that really stuck with me: “The Best Known Always Beats the Best.” Though initially said in a business context, this quote holds true for everyone. Being well-known, recognized, and connected can often outweigh having the absolute highest level of skill or expertise.

Why Does Visibility Matter?

  1. Perception Matters: Your skills may be top-notch, but if no one knows about them, they’re not valued. Being well-known instantly elevates your perceived importance.
  2. Opportunities Abound: Visibility opens doors to exciting opportunities like job offers, speaking engagements, and collaborations.
  3. Trust Grows: Familiarity breeds trust. When you’re well-known, people trust you more, seek your advice, and are more inclined to collaborate.
  4. Networking Power: Being known amplifies your networking power. You’ll find people connecting, referring, and including you more often, expanding your sphere of opportunities.
  5. Amplified Impact: Your ideas, leadership, and advocacy reach a broader audience when you’re well-known, garnering greater support and influence.

By focusing on becoming best known rather than just being the best, you position yourself for greater success and advancement in your career. After all, in the game of career progression, it’s not always the best who win, but those who are best known.
